House of Cards | Season 5 Trailer Breakdown

I'm sure you all have watched the Season 5 trailer of House of Cards by now. In this blog post, I will try to make a detailed analysis of the trailer highlighting the important details. I have already mentioned the 2016 Election spoiler in my previous blog post. Check it out if you haven't already.

So, in the scene below, we see Frank snatch what looks like a newspaper from the hands of a congressman. This could be from the first episode where Hammerschmidt's story on Frank is supposed to gain the heat.

The above screenshot is an interesting one. Frank won New York, which is supposed to be Conway's state. I know New York is a democratic stronghold but it had to be a shock that the people wouldn't want their own governor to be President. Maybe we'll get an insight into gerrymandering. Or maybe Conway losing New York has something to do with the bloody (inky?) mishap later in the trailer and the funeral scene prior to this one:

The bloody mishap looks more like ink spilled on Claire's dress. Or maybe it's blood and it's made darker for the trailer. Some TV shows avoid showing blood in their trailers. Here are the screenshots anyway. The first one is with Claire being rushed into the car and the second one's with Claire in the car.

The scene below shows Tom Hammerschmidt in a storage room looking at photos of Rachel. This looks like someone else's storage room and it's an indication that Tom found a lead and possibly a new person to help him with his investigation.

Now the next one is something that many are interested in. It's an audio where Frank says "Underwood 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036". Many have implied that there is a strong dictatorship angle to this line since a President can only serve two terms. It could be implied that he means that Claire will be President in 2020 and 2024, but he just goes on. There's a lot to make of it but the resources are too less. Right now, I'll say it's just Frank being Frank in his alone time feeding his power-centric narcissism.

The next image is of Frank taking oath in what looks like a court. There's definitely a lot to the Hammerschmidt investigation.

The following image shows a photo os someone who looks like Tom Yates, but the woman is definitely not Claire. The background makes it look it's in the White House press briefing room.

Is this Rachel's ex-girlfriend? Tell me what you think.

This one's a person spitting at Frank's face. He can't be one of the terrorists from season 4 because he definitely is pissed with Frank at a personal level.

One more thing you should notice is that Claire's hair is a bit varying in length throughout the trailer. It's an important aspect to building some timeline. Check these screenshots:

Let me know what you think of the trailer. If there are more significant clues that I missed, comment them below and we'll discuss those as well. Thank you for reading!

    1. I do think that it's Lisa. What's bugging me is whose funeral it is in one of the scenes.
